For just $5.00 a year, children twelve years old or younger, can be part of JOCKO’S FRIENDS, a Junior Membership Club of Government House Historical Society. The Club is called “Jocko’s Friends”, in honour of the pet monkey, Jocko, who was the companion of the first Lieutenant Governor, Amédée Forget, more than 100 years ago.

Members will receive these benefits:

  1. be recognized as an honorary guide of the House, helping the tour guide
  2. be invited to a special junior members’ event with the  Lieutenant Governor
  3. receive a subscription to “Monkey Business“, a quarterly newsletter
  4. receive a coupon for the Victorian Tea for you and a guest
  5. receive a gift bag after four visits to the House in one year.

Jocko’s Club now has a membership of 75.

Our spring planting session was a huge success.  Two garden beds have been planted by Jocko’s Friends - Coquette’s Mixed Garden and Jocko’s Harvest Garden.  Mr.  Frank Switzer, a longtime member of Nature Saskatchewan spoke to the members about how to plant gardens to attract birds year round.

Thanks to the volunteers and parent volunteers who helped make this day -complete with delicious snack -possible!

A special thank you to the nine junior members who volunteered to assist at the Lieutenant Governor’s garden party on July 1st.  Your assistance in passing out the special seed packets was very much appreciated.

Our next event will be Saturday, September 25th.  More details will soon be available.  Come visit our gardens and see how Jocko’s Harvest Garden and Coquette’s Mixed Garden are progressing since our June planting of them!

Remember to have your membership card punched at Coquette’s – The Gift Shop at Government House each time you visit Government House. One of our members has already received her gift bag from Coquette’s after four visits to Government House.
