Newsletters
All members of the GHHS receive a quarterly newsletter, “The Portico“. A copy is also sent to our volunteers. This contains information about upcoming events, special occasions in the House, volunteer opportunities, and in-depth features on GHHS projects, as well as news from Government House.
The activities of the Lieutenant Governor, such as the New Year’s Day levee, and the Canada Day picnic are covered. There was a report when Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth ll opened the new wing of Government House in 2005. This wing is appropriately named the Queen Elizabeth ll Wing.
Some articles explore the history of Government House, featuring different people, objects and events which played a part in making the House what it is today. Current articles cover those who work in the House, helping the GHHS to carry out its work. New Board members, and those retiring from the Board, are also featured. Sometimes the work of one of our committees is featured, or one of our volunteers is honoured.
Our junior members receive a quarterly newsletter named “Monkey Business“. Junior members, who are twelve years old or younger, join a club called “Jocko’s Friends“, in honour of Jocko, the pet monkey who was the companion of Lieutenant Governor Amédée Forget. This club is a new initiative of GHHS, and was started in the fall of 2008.
