Jocko’s Friends

household-358 “Spring has sprung…..”

Spring has sprung and the planting was done on Saturday, June 12th.  Prior to the planting thirty one junior members gathered to meet our guest speaker, Mr. Frank Switzer.  Mr. Switzer a long time member of Nature Saskatchewan,  explained ways of enhancing our gardens to attract birds all four seasons.  He donated a handsome bird feeder to Jocko’’s Friends;  Jenalyn was the proud recipient of this door prize.

Volunteers helped the junior members with the planting of two gardens -Jocko’s Harvest Garden and Coquette’s Mixed Garden- in the raised beds located on the south side of the House.  A special thank you to Carrie Ross for her support in having these beds ready for our event.

Congratulations to our door prize winners, Thomas, Meghan and Alaina.  Thanks to our volunteers and parent volunteers who helped make this a successful event.

The afternoon concluded with a delightful snack of ice cream and chocolate chip cookies.

Drop by and visit our beautiful gardens and check on how Jocko’s Harvest Garden and Coquette’s Mixed Garden are doing since our June planting day!

Be sure to keep Saturday, September 25th, 2010 open for our next exciting Jocko’s event.  Details will soon be available!

AA&A Event

appraisal1It is time again to let you know about our annual A A & A Event (Antique Auction and Appraisal Event) held by the Government House Historical Society.  The auction of antiques and collectibles was held on Saturday, August 14th.

The appraisals will be August 25th, 26th, and 27th, with appraisers Vern Reese and Isabelle Zohner.  Appraisals will go from 10 am until 3 pm each day: no registrations are needed.  They will conduct open appraisals - a little like a “road show” so come with items you would like to know more about or just come to learn more about antiques and collectibles.
